What did george gobel die from

One television program that Bone Daddy and his family watched religiously on a black and white TV with “rabbit ears” antenna from the mid-1950’s to the early 1960’s was The George Gobel Show…..as the family would gather around the television set for the 30 minute comedy TV series from 1954 –1960….when they watched every one of the 136 episodes…..which features a half-hour series….when Gobel used a successful comedy format of a monologue segment…..followed by a story set up segment….then a musical interlude with the show’s girl singer…..after which came the main skit with Gobel’s guest performers.  It was the George Gobel Show that cemented the idea in Pop’s (BD’s Dad) head to personally cut his three son’s hair in the “crew cut style” which George Gobel fashioned on every show.  To this day, Bone Daddy has many fond memories of the laughs and joy that he and his family shared while being fans of the show…..and for this reason, I have chosen George Gobe

Lonesome George (Spanish: Solitario George or Jorge, c. 1910[2][3][4][5] – June 24, 2012) was a male Pinta Island tortoise (Chelonoidis niger abingdonii) and the last known individual of the subspecies.[6][7][8][9] In his last years, he was known as the rarest creature in the world. George serves as an important symbol for conservation efforts in the Galápagos Islands and throughout the world.[10]

Discovery

George was first seen on the island of Pinta on November 1, 1971, by Hungarianmalacologist József Vágvölgyi. The island's vegetation had been devastated by introducedferal goats, and the indigenous C. n. abingdonii population had been reduced to a single individual. It is thought that he was named after a character played by American actor Georg

In 1971, noted Hungarian malacologist (someone who studies mollusks) József Vágvölgyi discovered the last remaining tortoise on Pinta (Abingdon) Island in the Galapagos. Feral goats had devastated the island’s vegetation and only one individual of the Chelonoidis nigra abingdonii tortoise subspecies was still alive. For his own safety, “Lonesome George” (thought to be named for a character played by American actor George Gobel) was relocated to the Charles Darwin Research Station on Santa Cruz (Indefatigable) Island, Galapagos.

For decades, attempts for George to produce offspring met with failure, most likely, because no females of his subspecies existed. Although several clutches of eggs were produced by females closely related to him, the eggs proved to be inviable.

Lonesome George became a compelling icon for conservation efforts in the Galapagos and around the world. He was sometimes referred to as “the rarest creature in the world.” He was found dead June 24, 2012 by one of his caretakers.  Officials attributed his death to “old age.” It is believed George was born p
