DiCaprio portrays Ernest Burkhart, a member of a murderous conspiracy who marries Mollie Kyle (portrayed by Gladstone) to gain her trust. DiCaprio was originally cast in the heroic role of FBI agent Tom White, but during development of the film, he insisted on switching to Burkhart’s character, which led to significant script revisions.
