E. John Rosenwald, Jr. is a vice chairman emeritus of J.P. Morgan. Previously, he worked for many years at Bear, Stearns and Company. He joined the firm in 1953 and rose quickly in the corporation, eventually becoming vice chairman of The Bear Stearns Companies, Inc. in 1988 and vice chairman of Bear, Stearns and Company in 1997.

Rosenwald has served and supported many nonprofit organizations, and was named Philanthropist of the Year by the New York Times in 2000.

He is a member of the Board of Trustees of many organizations, including the Environmental Defense Fund; the National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse at Columbia University; the National Organization on Disability; the National September 11 Memorial & Museum at the World Trade Center; the NYU Langone Medical Center; and the Teachers College at Columbia University. Additionally, Rosenwald is a life trustee for the Central Park Conservancy and New York University, a trustee emeritus for the Metropolitan Museu

Scope and Content Note

In 1975, poet, translator, and activist Robert Bly organized the first annual Great Mother Conference. Throughout the ten-day event, poetry, music, and dance were utilized to examine human consciousness. The conferences evolved into the Great Mother and New Father Conferences, and were held annually through 2010.

This collection contains promotional posters, post cards, and brochures advertising the Robert Bly Great Mother and New Father conferences. In addition, correspondence, evaluations, and reports of the conference are included. Finally, there is a draft of the presentation John Rosenwald made at the "Robert Bly in This World" conference sponsored by the University of Minnesota Libraries in 2009 which documents the history of the annual conference, begun in 1975.

The Conservancy, dedicated to celebrating, preserving, and protecting iconic buildings and diverse neighborhoods that define the city, each year honors distinguished New Yorkers as “Living Landmarks” for their contributions to the city. Honored along with Rosenwald were chef Daniel Boulud, real estate investor Peter Malkin, entertainer Liza Minelli, and Broadway impresarios James M. Nederlander and James L. Nederlander.
