Poet Friedrich von Schiller was born in Marbach, Württemberg, Germany, in 1759, and is most notable for his involvement in the later years of his life with the Weimarer Klassic cultural movement along with his friend Johann Wolfgang Goethe. Whilst he was brought up with his mother and four sisters, the family moved to Lorch when Schiller’s father returned from military service and took up the post of army recruiting officer there.
Schiller was initially a reluctant student but when he came under the wing of Pastor Moser he began to learn Greek and Latin and became acquainted with the Classics. When the family moved to Ludwigsburg, Schiller joined the military academy there and began to study medicine, eventually becoming a regimental surgeon like his father, a career he was never comfortable.

Johann Christoph Friedrich von Schiller was a German poet, physician, playwright, philosopher and historian. He was principally a member of the Sturm and Drang period which was a proto Romantic movement. He was born on 10th November 1759 in Marbach am Neckar, Germany and died on 9th May 1805 in Weimar, Germany aged 45.

Johann Christoph Friedrich von Schiller was born on 10th November 1759 in Marbach, Württemberg in Germany. His father Johann Kaspar Schiller was a military doctor. His mother Elisabetha Dorothea, nee Kodweiss, was the daughter of an innkeeper. Friedrich was the only son but had five sisters. Johann Christoph Friedrich von Schiller (German:[ˈjoːhanˈkʁɪstɔfˈfʁiːdʁɪçfɔnˈʃɪlɐ], short:[ˈfʁiːdʁɪçˈʃɪlɐ]ⓘ; 10 November 1759 – 9 May 1805) was a German playwright, poet, philosopher and historian. Schiller is considered by most Germans to be Germany's most important classical playwright.
He was born in Marbach to a devoutly Protestant family. Initially intended for the priesthood, in 1773 he entered a military academy in Stuttgart and ended up studying medicine. His first play, The Robbers, was written at this time and proved very successful. After a brief stint as a regimental doctor, he left Stuttgart and eventually wound up in Weimar. In 1789, he became professor of History and Philosophy at Jena, where he wrote historical works.
