Roy Firestone Biography


Roy Firestone is a decorated sports journalist and commentator and is known to be one of the greatest interviewers in the sports industry. He began his career working for MJTV in Miami as a sports anchor and commentator. He moved out to LA where he held the same position before joining ESPN in 1980. With ESPN, Firestone was the host of their interview program, SportsLook, later named Up Close. In 1987, Firestone became the inaugural color commentator for ESPN’s Sunday Night Football. Firestone also became one of the most sought after corporate public speakers and appeared on several late night talk shows such as Late Show with David Letterman and Larry King Live. Firestone also went on to make several appearances in TV shows and also made on appearance in the 1996 movie Jerry Maguire. In his career, Firestone compiled 7 Emmy Awards and 7 more CableACE Awards.
