Excerpt from Jon Zens Biography:

I’ve been through College as a Bible major (1968) and then finished seminary (1972), but I’ve never really been “the pastor” quite the way many have been. My transition wasn’t black and white – going from traditional pastor to simple church. It was more gradual as the Lord brought people and books into my life as the years passed. I hope the abbreviated highlights of my journey will encourage you!

I was not raised in a Christian home. The Lord called me out of darkness in 1964 and my first church experience was in a Fundamentalist Baptist church in southern California. I was encouraged by the pastor to transfer from Cal State at Northridge as an Art major and become a “preacher boy” at Bob Jones University.

While a student at BJU I found a copy of Alexander Hays’ New Testament Order for Church & Missionary (1947) in a used book store. I read it and it was hard for me to connect the dots to all the points the author made, but I learned some basic

Meet Jon Zens

Jon was born in Barstow, California in 1945. After graduating from Canoga Park High School in 1963, he attended CalState Northridge for two years as an Art major. From 1965-67 he attended Bob Jones University and then graduated from Covenant College in 1968. He and his wife intended to go to India, but when their visa was turned down in 1969, Jon finished with an M.Div. from Westminster Seminary in Philadelphia in 1972. Jon worked at Standard Pressed Steel in Jenkintown PA from 1970-75 in Inventory Control, Inside Sales and Aerospace Production Planning. In 1975, Jon and Dotty moved to Nashville TN to be part of a house church, and to work with Norbert Ward, who began the quarterly Baptist Reformation Review in 1972 (which became Searching together in 1982). Because of health setbacks Norbert asked Jon to become editor of the magazine in 1978. Searching Together will celebrate its 40th year of publication in 2014. Jon's first book was published in 1978 by Presbyterian & Reformed -- Dispensationalism: An Inquiry into Its Leading Figures and Features. He graduated with a D.
