Stephen Dixon (born Stephen Bruce Ditchik; June 6, 1936 – November 6, 2019) was an American author of novels and short stories.[1]

Life and career

Dixon was born on June 6, 1936, in Manhattan, New York. He was the fifth of seven children of Florence Leder, a beauty queen, chorus girl on Broadway, and interior decorator, and Abraham M. Ditchik.[1] He graduated from the City College of New York in 1958 and was a faculty member of Johns Hopkins University. Before becoming a full-time writer, Dixon worked a plethora of odd jobs ranging from bus driver to bartender. In his early 20s he worked as a journalist and in radio, interviewing such political figures as John F. Kennedy, Richard Nixon and Nikita Khrushchev.[2]

Dixon was nominated for the National Book Award twice, in 1991 for Frog and in 1995 for Interstate.[3]Frog, at 860 pages, was his longest and most ambitious novel, and garnered reviews comparing the work favorably to James Joyce's Ulysses.[4] He al

Stephen Dixon studied Fine Art at Newcastle University and Ceramics at the Royal College of Art, graduating in 1986. He is Professor Emeritus at Manchester School of Art, investigating contemporary narratives in ceramics. His work features in numerous public and private collections, including the Victoria and Albert Museum; the Museum of Arts & Design, New York; the Everson Museum of Art, Syracuse; the British Council; the Crafts Council; the Royal Museum of Scotland and the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco. He was a Trustee of the Crafts Council from 2009 to 2013 and a member of the Art and Design sub-panel for REF 2014 and REF 2021.

Stephen Dixon (born 1 March 1974) is an English news presenter. Dixon co-presents Breakfast with Stephen and Anne on GB News. Previously he presented Sky News Sunrise, Sky News at Seven and Sky News at Ten on Sky News.

Journalism career

Dixon's career began at Nottingham Trent University where he read for a BA in broadcast journalism, graduating in 1995.

Before working for Sky News, Dixon worked for ITN as both a presenter and producer for ITV, NBC Superchannel, and Channel 5.

He also helped work as a producer and programme editor on the Channel 4Big Breakfast News, and presented on finance channel Simply Money with Angela Rippon.[1]

From January 2012 to October 2019, Dixon presented Sunrise on Sky News, alongside Gillian Joseph, and Isabel Webster. From October 2019, he presented Sky News @ Breakfast with Gillian Joseph, on Friday, Saturday and Sunday on Sky News.

In November 2021, it was announced that Dixon was joining GB News the following month.[2]
