As a Social Worker in gang prevention, Maryum is passionate about preventing youth from committing crimes, joining gangs and going to jail. But unfortunately, Maryum knows some kids see doing time as a right of passage. She hopes this program will show her why incarceration is so powerful to inner-city kids. She also hopes to learn what kind of resources there are inside for inmates.
Born and raised in Chicago, Maryum is the eldest of Muhammad Ali’s nine children. Her father was prone to humanitarian acts of all kinds and she has followed in his footsteps.
Maryum has fifteen years of experience in delinquency prevention and youth development and has worked in many capacities in this field; from having direct practice experience with over 300 families to working in the Mayor’s Office of Gang Reduction & Youth Development in Los Angeles.

Muhammad Ali (;[2] born Cassius Marcellus Clay Jr.; January 17, 1942 – June 3, 2016) was an American professional boxer and social activist.[a] A global cultural icon, widely known by the epithet, "the Greatest", he is frequently cited as the greatest heavyweight boxer of all time. He held the Ring magazine heavyweight title from 1964 to 1970, was the undisputed champion from 1974 to 1978, and was the WBA and Ring heavyweight champion from 1978 to 1979. In 1999, he was named Sportsman of the Century by Sports Illustrated and the Sports Personality of the Century by the BBC.

Maryum Ali dribbled a basketball to one of two nets and made three shots in a row after cutting a silver ribbon to rededicate the Muhammad Ali Athletic Center, named for her famous father, at the Islamic Foundation School in Villa Park on Tuesday.
Maryum Ali was at the school during a week of events to honor Malcolm X as part of Black History Month but also in celebration of the Islamic Foundation Mosque’s 50th anniversary.
As part of the anniversary, the school rededicated its athletic center to Muhammad Ali, the professional boxer and activist, and his eldest daughter was invited to talk to students about her children’s book, “I Shook Up The World,” an illustrated story detailing her father’s life, success and perseverance.
“I wrote this book because my father was also an inspiration to me,” she said Tuesday. Boxer Fres Oquendo was also in attendance at a ceremony Tuesday.
