Dr. Obama is a member of the World Future Council, which advocates for responsible and sustainable action to identify and enable the application of holistic solutions on a wide range of global issues, influence policymaking, and thus help secure a healthy intact world for future generations. She is also on the Advisory Board of the German Museum in Munich. Other positions she has held or currently holds are that of Ambassador of the German Federal Agency for Technical Relief (THW), Advisory Board Member of the Centre for the Study of Contemporary Solidarity, University of Vienna, Austria, since 2018, Patron of the Storymoja International (Literary) Festival, Kenya, Board Member of the Jim Button Foundation, Trustee of the Jacobs Foundation 2011 – 2015, Trustee of the Stiftung Lesen (German Reading Foundation), 2015 - 2017, alumni of the Rockefeller Foundation‘s Bellagio Centre Residency Program, Bellagio, Italy 2016.

Dr. Auma Obama was born in Kenya and grew up there. She studied in Germany and completed her master’s degree at the University of Heidelberg. Following this, she successfully completed another degree programme at the German Film and Television Academy in Berlin and received a doctoral degree from the University of Bayreuth at the same time.
For several years, Dr. Obama lived and worked in Germany and the UK before returning to Kenya, where she worked for the aid organisation CARE International. An important part of her work there was the establishment and coordination of the network ‘Sport for Social Change’. This initiative brought together organisations from different countries of East Africa, from Egypt and Bangladesh, in order to familiarise girls in particular with sport as a means for improving their own social situation.

Rita Auma Obama (born 1960) is a Kenyan-British community activist, sociologist, journalist, author, and half-sister of the 44th president of the United States, Barack Obama. Obama serves as the executive chairwoman of Sauti Kuu Foundation (Strong Voices Foundation), a non-profit organisation that helps orphans and other young people struggling with poverty in Kenya.[1][2][3]
Background and education
Auma Obama is the daughter of Barack Obama Sr. and his first wife, Kezia Obama (née Aoko).[4][5][6] She is the older half-sister of Barack Obama. After attending a local elementary school and The Kenya High School for secondary education (1973–1978), she secured a scholarship to attend university in Germany. She studied German at Heidelberg University from 1981 until 1987. After her graduation from Heidelberg, she went for graduate studies at the University of Bayreuth, graduating with a Doctor of Philosophy degree in 1996.[2] She
