Michael O'Connor (born 27 October 1965) is a British costume designer. He has been nominated for the Academy Award for Best Costume Design three times, winning for The Duchess (2008).

Life and career

O'Connor was born in London, England. He began his training as a dresser at the Old Vic and then spent six years in a costume house before deciding to go freelance.[1]

In the 1990s, O'Connor went into the film industry. His early works as a wardrobe supervisor was on such films as The House of the Spirits (1993) and Emma (1996). Then he was elevated to an assistant costume designer and worked in this role on several notable films, these include Oscar and Lucinda (1997), Topsy-Turvy (1999), and Quills (2000). In addition, he was an associate costume designer on Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (2002).

After working as costume designer

Michael O'Connor was born on 11th February 1958 in Bunduff townland near Cliffoney, north Sligo Ireland. Seventh in a family of nine, Michael attended the local Castlegal National School, Grange Post Primary and Sligo V.E.C Vocational Schools. He worked from 1972 to 1978 in Classiebawn Castle, Mullaghmore, Co. Sligo, summer home of Lord Louis Mountbatten, ending up as skipper of the ill fated Shadow V fishing boat which was blown up just off Mullaghmore, by an I.R.A. bomb on 27th August 1979. Four people died in the explosion including Lord Mountbatten and the 15 year old boatman Paul Maxwell. Michael joined the Garda Siochana in December 1980 and served for over 30 years serving in Pettigo, Co. Donegal, Blacklion Co Cavan, Manorhamilton, Co Leitrim and finally Sligo Town. He also served two tours with the United Nations Civilian Police force in Cambodia in 1992/1993 and Cyprus in 1996/1997. He has always had an interest in writing Poetry and Short Stories. Reverend Michael O'Connor is a native of Ocean Springs, Mississippi and the youngest of five children. He graduated from Ocean Springs High School in 1983, and from the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg in 1987, where he received his bachelor's degree in psychology. Upon graduation, Father O'Connor was commissioned into the United States Air Force as a Second Lieutenant. He served as a military officer, both on active duty and in the Mississippi Air National Guard, principally in Radar Operations, Surveillance, and Air Weapons Control. Father O'Connor attained the rank of Major and worked full-time for the Mississippi Air National Guard from 1990 until he answered the call to enter the seminary in 2000. Father O'Connor attended Notre Dame Seminary in New Orleans, Louisiana and was ordained a priest of the Lord Jesus Christ on June 11, 2005. In 2007, he was appointed pastor of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Dedeaux (Pass Christian, Mississippi), and in 2014 Fr. O'Connor was appointed pastor of Our Lady of the Gulf parish in Bay St. Lou
